Most current, conventional plant disease detection techniques require laboratory equipment and are labor intensive and often inaccurate. Although established methods such as PCR, FISH, ELISA, IF, FCM and GC-MS are already available and widely used for plant disease detection, they are relatively difficult to operate, require expert technicians and are time consuming for data analysis. Most of these methods cannot provide real-time detection which makes them less suitable for in-field testing and early warning systems.

Test kits only contain the Verralize device aka “Reader,” disposable cup and lid; lid contains the nanotechnology-based sensors and is “where the magic happens.” VerralizeAG’s sensing technology offers higher sensitivity and selectivity so it can detect and measure desired target analytes while minimizing interference and contamination from other elements in the test and measurement of complex samples.  PVY is the most economically important viral pathogen of potato worldwide. It’s also the most serious problem facing the U.S. potato industry and the main cause for rejection of seed lots resulting in a financial loss. PYV reduces the yield of potato tubers by 70-80% and also negatively affects the quality of the remaining tubers.
